Shipping to Remote Areas and Restricted Countries

Sofia Ramirez Written by Sofia Ramirez

BrandSKU ships worldwide, but some destinations involve extra fees, longer delivery, or no service at all. This article covers how those cases are handled and what to do when an order is affected.

Remote Areas

A remote area is any destination the carrier classifies as hard to reach — offshore territories, low-density rural regions, or addresses with limited carrier infrastructure. Classification is decided by the carrier's own system, so whether a specific postal code counts as remote isn't something you can judge from geography alone.

When an address is flagged, a remote area surcharge is added to the order — typically USD 15–40, depending on carrier and destination. Delivery also takes longer: allow an extra 2–5 business days for domestic remote destinations, and up to 7–14 business days for offshore or rural international ones.

Restricted Countries

A small number of countries can't be shipped to at all — usually due to international sanctions, no reliable carrier coverage, or category-specific import bans. Orders to these destinations are blocked at checkout and cannot be created.

The restricted list follows current international trade regulations and may change over time. If you're unsure whether a specific country is supported, check your store's shipping zone settings or contact BrandSKU support before promoting to that market.

If an Order Is Blocked or Flagged

Tip: Most issues are address problems, not destination problems. Check the address first before assuming the country is unsupported.

  1. Check the address for typos, wrong postal codes, or incorrect country selection. Corrected addresses often pass validation on retry.
  2. Ask the customer for an alternative address in a supported country — freight forwarder, family, or business contact — if the destination itself is restricted.
  3. Cancel and refund the order if no workaround is available. This is better than leaving an undeliverable order open.
  4. Contact BrandSKU support for borderline destinations or regions that may have recently opened up.
